About The Lawson Lashbrook Family
My grandfather Oscar Lawson was born to David and Olive Jane(Whalen) Lawson. The winter of his birth was said to be the coldest of many years before and after.Oscar was raised in Conger Township where his father owned large logging operations. His father David passed away when he was 14 at which time Oscar left school and went to work in the logging camps.Like many of his friends in those days, come summer they boarded a train and and headed west for the harvest in Saskatchewan.Oscar and Jane were married in 1929 in Parry Sound.During the depression years they had eight children but raised only seven of them.As a self educated man,Oscar became very proficient in handling explosives. When parry Sound area had Felspar mining he worked as a poderman. He also worked in Malton at Victor Aircraft plant where large bombers were built for the war.He was a trapper, hunter, and always had a story to tell.Gardening was another way he spent many hours, and watching the Toronto's Maple Leafs.Oscar was a good husband and father. I loved my grandparents and just wish I was older when he told his stories.Much of this taken from a article written by June Stoneman daughter of Oscar and Jane Lawson Cindy Lawson
